The Gilt Frame
Ok, one note here. I know that this is really a plain looking page! But the whole site is about to move, so I really don't want to put a lot of effort into something that is about to have to be completely redone. I think I might figure out a way to do this with a LiveJournal community, which uses a whole different set of values as far as layouts are concerned. Not much point in prettifying until I'm sure what I want to do. Here, I'll put on this old gold hinge background so it won't look completely plain, ok? ^__^
This is my music. I wrote it. I recorded it. It's not anyone else's.
(So the RIAA can get stuffed. They are destroying the Independent Artist.)
Please download it and enjoy it. More of this will follow. Lisa's Song for sure.

I recorded this with my guitar all by myself. Since I don't play well, I ended up recording the progression once, and then just looping it since the verses don't have any variations in the structure (i.e. there is no bridge). This is one of the songs that I would dearly love to have a real guitar track for though.
Note: this song was written during the first Gulf War I think. At the time I didn't have a good understanding of the politics involved. All I saw was the devastation that war brings, and how petty it all can become. That is still true today, but I also understand the necessity sometimes of intervention when a people is suffering under tyranny. How can a strong and good people stand by and watch, or wait for it to come to them. Having said that, I almost feel like I should change my stance on Darfur as well. Hmm...

So I recorded this with the guitar part too. However, I wrote it right in the central part of my best range, so I decided to save one version without the guitar track. Because of the poor quality guitar track, I really like this one better. There is also a secondary vocal line that is mostly just a bit lower.

Another one without a real guitar track. I can't play the guitar part I wrote for it. How sad is that? Even with brand new D'Addarios, it sounds terrible, just the little bit that I was able to play at the beginning as an example. It probably doesn't help that El Degas really could stand some servicing. It needs bridgework that I really can't afford right now and am not confident in doing myself.
This song was written for the one real love of my life... which also unfortunately, is 'the one who got away'. I won't mention any names. He ought to know who he is if he ever sees this... and if he doesn't, well... then he's a real moron. hahaha.

Note: this song is a snippet. It's just an example of a little tune that some of us have used since I wrote it in the 80's to raise our voices in song for the purpose of raising spritual energy and awareness with those voices. I credit Tammy Martin ne้ Bennett with the coauthorship becuase really, it was she and I who were standing out on my front porch singing it that night way back then, making up verses as we went.
The words recorded here are nonsense. The intent is to make up your own question and sing it out to the universe. The very first verse ever sung is a fine example:
Am I but a thought
Falling through transition?
Am I?
Am I real at all?

Gilded Pictures
This stuff is also my music. Gilded Pictures was my band, and there were several incarnations over the 15 or so years. People involved in this project include, but are not limited to (nor are all represented musically here, though I hope to include some music with all at some point). I am the one element that has been a constant in this project. This is music that was professionally recorded, but some of it was ripped from a slightly damaged CD, so there may be some skips and jumps. I will try to find some better quality MP3s soon.
M. Cynthea Carrington: Vocals
Criss Frost: Lead and Rhythm Guitar and Vocals
Jay Eastman: Rhythm and Effects Guitar
Len Rojas: Bass and Vocals
Wayne DeCarlo: Bass
Pete Lovitt: Bass
Rick Gedrites: Percussion
Various other artists at various times have participated. I have tried to include everyone who participated in Gilded Pictures during any recording, but not necessarily anyone who played with us at large, as sometimes that became very complicated as one person might have worked with us for a few weeks, and another might have stayed a few days before moving on. Now all that is left is The Gilt Frame and that is me, M. Cynthea Carrington.
